Vehicle Card – Odometer

Odometer insights are available in the Vehicle Card Overview tab, providing a transparent and trackable waypoint (odometer reading entry) management experience. The system features enhanced logging with user attribution, an at-a-glance history of odometer changes, and a clear distinction between system-generated and manual adjustments. You can also view detailed before-and-after values for each change, with quick access to the comprehensive Odometer History Detail report directly within vehicle details.

Odometer Information

How to Access Odometer Information:

  1. From the Vehicle Card, scroll down on the Overview tab to “Odometer.”
  2. Hover your mouse over the info icon next to “More odometer details.”

The Odometer Information hoverbox appears providing the following information:
    • Last mileage adjustment type
    • Miles or kilometers prior to waypoint
    • Miles or kilometers at waypoint
    • User who made the last waypoint change
    • Date & time of the last waypoint change

Entering a Waypoint

If you’d like to enter a waypoint for a vehicle’s odometer, you can do so from the Vehicle Card Header.

How to enter a waypoint:

  1. From the Vehicle Card Header, click Edit.

    The Edit vehicle drawer appears.
  2. Scroll down to the Mileage & Engine Hours section.

  3. Under “Odometer,” enter the odometer value.
  4. Click Save changes.

The new odometer value is now saved, and the hoverbox from the Vehicle Card displays the new waypoint with a ‘Manual Corrections’ adjustment type.

Understanding Mileage Adjustment Types

Please refer to the table below for definitions of mileage adjustment types and their expected outcomes.

Mileage Adjustment TypeDefinitionExpected Outcome
Diagnostic OdometerA data source that leverages your vehicle’s built-in odometer system to report mileage. This method typically provides the most accurate reading, as it is sourced directly from the vehicle’s onboard computer. When this mode activates, you may observe a sudden increase or decrease in your odometer reading as the system synchronizes with your vehicle’s actual odometer.

Note: Manual odometer updates are not supported in this mode.
Trip + GPS ModeA hybrid data source that combines your vehicle’s trip odometer with GPS tracking to provide a reliable mileage reading. This method prioritizes the trip odometer and uses GPS data as a backup when necessary. It is especially useful for vehicles where built-in odometer data is unavailable due to make, model, or year limitations.Expect smoother transitions with minimal sudden changes to your odometer reading, ensuring a more consistent and reliable mileage display.
GPS Only ModeA data source that relies solely on GPS tracking to calculate distance traveled, without using information from the vehicle’s built-in systems. This method provides an independent mileage reading based entirely on GPS data.Provides consistent odometer readings without sudden jumps, though overall accuracy may be slightly lower compared to diagnostic data sources.
Automatic System AdjustmentsSometimes your trip odometer may reset (like when you press the trip reset button) or temporarily stop working. When this happens, our system automatically corrects the reading to keep your odometer accurate.Applies small corrections to maintain consistency and accuracy in your odometer history.
Manual CorrectionsVehicle administrators have the ability to manually update the odometer reading to align with the value displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard, ensuring accuracy and consistency in reported mileage.Applies an immediate correction to align your odometer reading with the actual value shown on your vehicle’s dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

QuestionAnswer
What is Odometer Management? This feature automatically tracks your vehicle’s mileage by using the most reliable data source available. The system intelligently chooses between your vehicle’s onboard computer, GPS tracking, or a combination of both to deliver accurate odometer readings in your reports.
How does the system choose my odometer source? The system automatically selects the most reliable data source for your specific vehicle or device. It prioritizes your vehicle’s built-in odometer whenever available, and will fall back to GPS and trip odometer data as needed to ensure accurate mileage tracking.
Why might my odometer reading change suddenly? The system may occasionally switch between data sources to maintain the most accurate mileage possible. You might notice changes in your odometer reading when the system:
– Switches from GPS tracking to your vehicle’s actual odometer
– Automatically corrects for trip odometer resets
– Adjusts to match the odometer reading displayed on your dashboard
– Applies manual adjustments made by an administrator
What if my odometer doesn’t match my dashboard? The system is designed to provide the most accurate mileage reading possible. If you notice a difference, it may be because the system is using a different—and potentially more accurate—data source than the one displayed on your vehicle’s dashboard.
What are “Systemic Adjustments”?Automatic corrections are adjustments the system makes to keep your odometer history consistent and accurate. These typically occur when your vehicle’s trip odometer resets or temporarily stops working.
Can I correct my odometer reading?Yes. Vehicle administrators can make manual corrections to align the system’s odometer reading with the actual value shown on the vehicle’s dashboard.

Note: Manual corrections are not available for vehicles using a Diagnostic Odometer data source.
Is my historical mileage data affected by these changes? No. Past odometer readings remain unchanged. The system only applies changes to future mileage tracking.
