ELD Flex Location Data Issues

Are experiencing issues with location data in ELD Flex? Before having to call Support, please follow the steps below provided for different scenarios to correct location data issues.

Location values must be filled out by the driver if they are missing.

The Log Entries Do Not Have Any Location Data

Check the current vehicle and determine the GPS Source. This will be one of the following:

  • Mobile Device – Tablet/Phone
  • VBUS Device – The VBUS Device plugged into the vehicle
  • Either Device – The application will use either of the two sources when location is needed, depending on which provides a coordinate lock of good quality first. The location data may come from different sources for the period.
  • If the vehicle is set to Mobile Device make sure that location services are turned on and set to high precision.
  • If the vehicle is set to VBUS Device make sure that the device provides the application with GPS data.

In general, mobile devices with high-precision enabled provide much better (more accurate and consistent) GPS locks than VBUS devices, but this may not always be the case for your drivers. If you are experiencing problems with location, we recommend setting GPS Receiver to ‘Mobile Device,’ and if that does not work, to ‘VBUS Device.’

The Log Entries Do Not Have Any Location Data After A Given Point

This is most likely due to a Position Malfunction. Position Malfunctions need to be cleared in order to start accumulating position data again. They should be cleared immediately. To confirm:

  1. Go to the Logs tab when the location data stopped showing.
  2. Click on the Show All checkbox.
  3. Look for a ‘MalPos’ event at the time the entries started missing location data.

The Location Of Some Logs is in a Different State/Country

This is most likely due to a Position Malfunction. To confirm:

  1. Go to the Logs tab when the location data stopped showing.
  2. Click on the Show All checkbox
  3. Look for a ‘MalPos’ event at the time the entries started missing location data.

This may also occur if an administrative agent logs into a driver’s account to add a status to the driver’s logs, as the driver, from their office. Do not allow this behavior, as it is non-compliant.
